As many of you might already know, Chuck Bodak suffered a stroke about six months ago. I am happy to report that he is doing well today, and thanks to the many that have contacted him through these difficult times.

My good friends Michele Chong and Steve Harpst have kept me well informed, so I can relate any news to the many that I reach out to on my website here.

Rusty Rubin is the editor-in-chief of the Ringsports.com website and the author of three highly acclaimed boxing books!
“One of the funniest boxing books ever written”. ‘Healing and therapeutic’ and ‘helpful in dealing with a life threatening illness’, are just a few of the words that seem to be most used when readers have called and written to me about “Woozel, Boxing and Me” (Authorhouse.com #31810). This book has been rated 4½ stars at Amazon.com (read the reviews) and was named “Boxing Book of the Year, 2006” by 13thround.com.
“Woozel, Boxing and Me” is far more than just a compilation of many funny and true boxing stories, oddities and quotes. The book serves as a tribute to the memory of Susiey “Woozel” Walker, my zany best friend of more than 25 years, who loved life and knew how to live it to the max. This book has helped many people deal with terminal illness and death, although that was never my overt intention in writing this tome. I am currently working on a follow up.

It was October 2000, and I had just met unbeaten WBC Super Bantamweight champion, Willie Jorrin, at our annual president’s pre-dinner for the World Boxing Hall of Fame at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.
Willie Jorrin shadow-boxing in Santa Barbara
As we talked, I told him that it would be a delight if I could bring him to my home town of Santa Barbara, California, to spar and sign autographs for the kids at a local PAL boxing club.
To my surprise, without any hesitation on his part, he said “yes.” So, four months later, in February of 2001, I promoted his arrival, and it was nothing less than spectacular.
