In Rusty’s Corner

 In Rusty’s Corner
Rusty Rubin is the award winning editor of Ringsports.com.

With Ricky Hatton landing a big punch early, it slowed down Paulie Malignaggi down enough to allow the “Hitman” to take advantage of the lighter puncher and stop him in the 11th round. Who knows how it would have turned out without the big punch?

By Jim Amato

The 1960′s spawned many great fighters. Dick Tiger, Jose Torres, Emile Griffith, Luis Rodriguiz and Carlos Ortiz just to name a few. One of the best of this era was a 5′ 3″ southpaw from Mexico City named Vincente Saldivar. He ruled the featherweight division for three years and then retired. He decided to come back and two and a half years after he gave up his crown, he re-claimed it.

Happy Holidays from David Martinez

by John Boitnott, DMBoxing.com Producer

I really like knowing David Martinez. Of course there’s his endless boxing knowledge – his ability to analyze a fight — even as it’s happening. (there’s the $200 I made from his De Lay Hoya prediction one time at the MGM Grand — but that’s a story for another time.)

There’s also the fact that he knows how to handle life situations. He just has a wisdom about him. I respect his advice big time. He knows how to treat people with respect. That’s a quality that a lot of people don’t have. It just comes natural to him because he’s a good, decent man.

But one of the best things he’ll ever do is something that only happens at Halloween. He’ll dress up like a masked wrestler! To see little kids stare at him in amazement is really a kick!

David — Thanks for all you’ve done and for keeping us up to date since you started the site in 2007.

 Happy Holidays from David Martinez

Happy Holidays! It is truly a pleasure to be associated with David and his boxing world!

In Rusty’s Corner

 In Rusty’s Corner

Perhaps the major thing that can get boxing on an upward trend again is a decent heavyweight division. With what’s out there today, I see no prospect of one anytime soon. The Ali era will probably remain the best heavyweight era in my lifetime.

Muhammad Ali / Part One

 Muhammad Ali / Part One
By David Martinez / Boxing Historian

This is the first of a six-part series on my personal accounts of Muhammad Ali. In each of the monthly editions it will be my pleasure to share with you ten Muhammad Ali photos from my private collection.

I will start this series’ first edition, by saying that the best closed-circuit fight that I ever attended was with my late father, Daniel J. Martinez and two of my best friends, Al Garcia and Hector Ybarra, at the Santa Barbara, California “historic” Granada Theater. On March 8, 1971, we saw the most eagerly anticipated championship fight that I have ever been involved with in my 48 years in boxing … Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali.

Jim Amato, my friend, is truly a gift to this website.

Jim was first introduced to my website in April of this year and has added his boxing professional input to the highest degree.

In this recent article written by Jim, I will certainly not argue with his expertise of Top Ten Dominant, but let me offer my own personal view of simply the top ten “greatest” fighters in the last 100 years.
