Glad to be back from a long-awaited and much needed cruise vacation. I have to tell you, particularly at this season of the year, that the whole world should be run like a cruise ship, with people from all around the globe sharing warmth and pleasantry with others. And I am not talking about just the crew members but the passengers as well. No anger, no hatred, no prejudice. What a wonderful world it could be if it were run that way. In many sports a participant is subject to pain. It goes with the territory. The nature of the beast so to speak. To me there can be no greater obvious damage to a participant then in boxing. If you are a boxer and happen to be matched with a superior opponent you must try to summon the courage to endure the pain.

There was a time in the mid 60’s that revolved around who would be Muhammad Ali’s next opponent. The former Cassius Clay was chewing up and spitting out challengers with alarming ease. His hold on the heavyweight title was reaching the point of fan boredom. Few could see any serious contenders on the horizon.

A brilliant win by Manny Pacquiao over Oscar De La Hoya is truly an understatement in their recent Dream Fight match.
Manny proved to be exactly what most boxing experts, including myself, didn’t think he would be – the stronger, younger, faster fighter vs. Oscar. I must say that I wasn’t so surprised that Oscar lost, but in just the way he lost.
