I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas 2010 and to say thank you for making my website one of your choices in boxing.

Since the birth of this website in July 2007, there have been many that have contributed to the success. I would like to acknowledge the main people at this time. They consist of John Boitnott (producer), Bob Quackenbush (proof reader & photo editing), Kathy Kraft (proof reader), Rusty Rubin (In Rusty’s Corner & Glove2Glove), Jim Amato (senior boxing writer), Jim Carlin and Ray Luna (photos).

My t-shirt girls are Suzie, Jania, Maryuri, Xochitl, Natalie, Julie, Krista, Morgan, Adriana, Marteena, Nina, Adria, Beverly, Lexy, Athena, Briana, Christina, Linda, Gordy, Christine, Kelly, and Jessica.

My hat girls are Samantha, Suzie, Tanya, Maryuri, Evelin, Nina, Daniella, Catlin, Christine, Stacy, Jennifer, and Gordy.

There are others who also contribute in small and positive ways, so I just want to thank everybody for their support in helping me, as it’s absolutely my pleasure to serve you in boxing.

I get fan mail and I respect all opinions. Many actually help me with input that I use constructively to make this website better.

Next month I will offer my annual feature of personal choices regarding the top categories in boxing – THE BEST OF 2010. Also next month, after many fans have requested it, I will reach back into the archives to bring you a story that I featured earlier this year regarding the five best black heavyweights at the turn of the 20th century: “World Colored Heavyweight Championship.”

As the New Year 2011 arrives, I want to wish everybody a safe and healthy year, and please know that your continued support logging on to dmboxing.com is greatly appreciated!

I really like knowing David Martinez. Of course there’s his endless boxing knowledge – his ability to analyze a fight – even as it’s happening. I respect his advice big time.

One of the best things he does is something that only happens at Halloween. He will dress up like a masked wrestler. So let me share with you now a photo of this years 2010 edition of him at a party posing with young lady – Kim. He will always accommodate others for a picture and let me say that it’s my absolute pleasure to serve as his producer since this website started back in July 2007 – thank you David!

(Summer 2010 Edition)

Each quarter, I write to thank the many people that make this website possible; that single subject is always the main focus because as a captain of this ship, if I had no crew , I have NO way to sail. So, I would like once again to mention the personnel that help make this website the success that it has become today.

In no particular order they are John Boitnott (Producer), Bob Quackenbush (Proof Reader and Photo Editing), Rusty Rubin (In Rusty’s Corner), Jim Amato (Senior Boxing Writer), Rick Farris (Free Lance Writer), Nancy Cole (Proof Reader), and Kathy Kraft (Proof Reader).

My t-shirt girls are Suzie, Jania, Maryuri, Xochitl, Natalie, Julie, Krista, Morgan, Adriana, Marteena, Nina, Adria, Beverly, Lexy, Athena, Briana, Christina, Linda, Gordy, Christine, and Kelly.

My hat girls are Samantha, Suzie, Tanya, Maryuri, Evelin, Nina, Daniella, Caitlin, Christine, Stacy, and Jennifer.

There are others who also contribute in small ways and I just want thank everyone for their support in helping me – it is absolutely my pleasure to serve you in boxing.

I get lots of fan mail and I respect all opinions. Many of you give me ideas and input that I try to answer in a positive manner. I was overwhelmed with the many responses that I received regarding the image of Jim Jeffries on the cigar box from the year 1900 that was part of my Jack Johnson vs. Jim Jeffries “FIGHT OF THE CENTURY” feature. Other websites contacted me about it and linked it on their sites as an introduction to my website.

One subject which has come to my attention, and more so than I expected, is the six part Muhammad Ali series than was featured on my website last year. Many of you have commented that you would like to see it featured back on my site again. These articles were my personal accounts of a boxer who, in the last century, was simply the greatest heavyweight champion of our time.

So, starting next month, I will re-post each of the six articles onto my website for your viewing, as requested, with the format as follows: each will appear on an every-other-week basis.

I am often asked the question, concerning Ali, how I would rate him among the other heavyweight champions. In going back to the late 1800′s of John L. Sullivan’s time to the present champions of today, I list him at #2. My rankings of the heavyweights are (#1) Jack Johnson, (#2) Muhammad Ali, (#3) Joe Louis, (#4) Jack Dempsey, (#5) Rocky Marciano, (#6) Gene Tunney, (#7) James Corbett, (#8) Larry Holmes, (#9) Jim Jeffries), and (#10) Ezzard Charles. In no particular order, the next set of five to round out my top fifteen are Bob Fitzsimmons, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.

As far as my rating the ten greatest boxers of all time in all the weight classes and with all at the peak of their careers – alphabetically they are Muhammad Ali, Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran, Harry Greb, Jack Johnson, Benny Leonard, Joe Louis, Carlos Monzon, Willie Pep, and Sugar Ray Robinson, with Ray Robinson my pick as the greatest fighter “ever” in any weight division. I will always remember what my good friend Johnny Ortiz (Ringside L.A. formerly with ESPN radio) once said: “Sugar Ray Robinson from 1940 to 1951, in 131 fights, only lost once and that to Jake La Motta, who he went on to beat five times, before losing the middleweight championship to Randy Turpin, who he beat in their rematch to win back the title in 1951.”

I will continue to bring you the best that I can in boxing, and please know that your continued support logging on to dmboxing.com means more than you know and I thank you!

By David Martinez / Boxing Historian

It was three years ago, July 15, 2007, that I brought you this website and dmboxing was born.

My purpose in starting this website is to bring boxing fans all around the world the best that I can offer, drawing from my 50 years of love and passion that I have for the sport. My primary focus is to maintain a format that has a personal touch coming from my wealth of knowledge, along with honest opinions to share with all of you.

The people that have stepped up and have joined me to help make this website the success that it has been over the past 36 months have been so incredible that I can only thank God for placing them in my life.

I would like to take this opportunity to mention these wonderful people. Each of them, behind the scenes, give what they individually do best in uniting themselves as a team that makes it all work.

John Boitnott, who I met back in the mid-nineties when I was doing boxing reporting for KEYT news radio 1250-AM, is my producer. He is brilliant in the sense that he knows how to make everything that I submit turn to gold in a way that my fan base can enjoy with interest and satisfaction. He has been there to listen to and deal with my perfectionist ways to make sure this website runs smoothly – he is “literally” the engine that makes the final product work to perfection.

Bob Quackenbush, who I have known as a friend for 30 years, is my lead proofreader; but another role he plays is this – he is a master in doing my photo editing. When I am in doubt about any photo matter, Bob is right there with his input and expertise. He is so valuable to this website that without him I would be a captain aboard a ship lost at sea without a compass.

My two main boxing writers are Rusty Rubin and Jim Amato. They both provide their own views and opinions in a positive manner. Rusty contributes “In Rusty’s Corner” which includes his “Glove 2 Glove” report for the sick and deceased in boxing. Rusty is based in Reno, Nevada, and adds so much to this website for which I am grateful. Jim contributes outstanding features about fighters with his own personal insights and has a great background in boxing. Jim is based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Another freelance writer that has contributed some of his excellent work is Rick Farris. He is a former professional boxer (1970-74) from the Los Angeles, California, area and I am so happy that has brought his expertise to my website.

Two other proof readers that I rely on as backups are Nancy Cole and Kathy Kraft. They are two priceless women to have as my friends and are always there to help in my time of need.

There are others that contribute, but the above that I have mentioned are the key supporting cast that I consider the ones who make up the team of success which leads to what you see on this website.

The girls that display my products are very special and beautiful. They are not professional models, as this is a common question that has been asked. These girls are friends of mine and enhance my website in a positive and productive way.

The girls that have modeled my t-shirts have been Suzie, Jania, Maryuri, Xochitl, Natalie, Julie, Krista, Morgan, Adriana, Marteena, Nina, Adria, Beverly, Lexy, Athena, Briana, Christina, Linda, Gordie, Christine, and next month, Kelly.

The girls that have posed with my hat have been Samantha, Suzie, Tanya, Maryuri, Evelin, Nina, Daniella, Caitlin, Christine, Stacy, and later this month, Jennifer.

All these girls are very special in a unique way as they have all said that they are simply honored to be part of my website. My only comment to that is – I am so honored to have them represent dmboxing.

In closing, I want to say that it has been my absolute pleasure to serve you these past three years. Your e-mail responses are most welcome and any positive input that you might have will only enable me to give you the best that I can offer.

I know that you have many choices in boxing on the Internet and this is why I sincerely want to say “thank you” for making my website just one of them!

John Boitnott
dmboxing.com producer

By David Martinez / Boxing Historian

I have had some of you ask me about my website producer, who is John Boitnott, one of my best friends.

I met John about twelve years ago, when I was doing boxing reports for KEYT news radio 1250AM for morning personality John Palminteri.

John Boitnott was the producer and board operator for that daily show and we instantly began a friendship through boxing and it has blossomed through the years to today.

When I left the World Boxing Hall of Fame in March 2007, after ten years of dedicated service as a board member and historian, I knew right then and there that I wanted to take boxing to another a level where I could reach out to the world.

John Boitnott had seen a vision when he saw some of my passing e-mails to people on information, schedules, news and personal input on boxing. What John did not know was that, even before the invention of a computer, when I as a young kid over 45 years ago, I used to use a typewriter to get this same information to people.

A dear friend of mine, the late Peter Del Campo, once told me that I was like a beacon of light in my early efforts to bring boxing news and schedules to everyone.

So John literally orchestrated my becoming mainstream and a beacon in boxing over the internet. He volunteered to use his expertise to become the producer of something I live every day of my life with a passion that no one can even comprehend. So, in July 2007, DavidMartinezBoxing.Com became a reality.

John was certainly the launching block to something that has given me pure pleasure in the last year and a half and I am so fortunate that I have a producer that understands who I am and what I stand for in boxing.

John, professionally, is a web master for NBC-TV in the San Francisco-San Jose area market and has helped make my boxing Web site into what it is today and will be in the future.

The fact that John lives in Northern California and I live in Southern California, and how we co-exist in making this website as productive and inventive as it is, is like any long distance relationship that works in true harmony.

As we start the new year 2009, I want to take this opportunity to thank John Boitnott for the outstanding job that he does in every phase of this website and for the satisfaction that he gives me as my producer!

I really like knowing David Martinez. Of course there’s his endless boxing knowledge – his ability to analyze a fight — even as it’s happening. (there’s the $200 I made from his De Lay Hoya prediction one time at the MGM Grand — but that’s a story for another time.)

There’s also the fact that he knows how to handle life situations. He just has a wisdom about him. I respect his advice big time. He knows how to treat people with respect. That’s a quality that a lot of people don’t have. It just comes natural to him because he’s a good, decent man.

But one of the best things he’ll ever do is something that only happens at Halloween. He’ll dress up like a masked wrestler! To see little kids stare at him in amazement is really a kick!

David — Thanks for all you’ve done and for keeping us up to date since you started the site in 2007.

Happy Holidays! It is truly a pleasure to be associated with David and his boxing world!
