• Peter Jackson

By David Martinez / Boxing Historian
I consider myself truly blessed to have seen over the past fifty years all the boxing greats. I have written various articles ranking different boxers in their primes, but I feel compelled to write now about a division in boxing that hardly anyone ever talks about – light heavyweight. […]

  • Greatest Boxer “Pound for Pound”… Ever

By David Martinez / Boxing Historian I have been asked many times “who is the greatest boxer of all time in any weight division at the height of his career” and that answer is the easiest for me to come up with – Sugar Ray Robinson. I could go on and on about his career but I will go on record to say that at his pinnacle years he was clearly the best. I was fortunate to meet him at a local amateur boxing show in 1986 where I was a referee for the kids. […]

from the desk of 300x300 FROM THE DESK OF: David Martinez / Boxing Historian (Winter 2010 Edition)

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas 2010 and to say thank you for making my website one of your choices in boxing.

Since the birth of this website in July 2007, there have been many that have contributed to the success. I would like to acknowledge the main people at this time. They consist of John Boitnott (producer), Bob Quackenbush (proof reader & photo editing), Kathy Kraft (proof reader), Rusty Rubin (In Rusty’s Corner & Glove2Glove), Jim Amato (senior boxing writer), Jim Carlin and Ray Luna (photos).

My t-shirt girls are Suzie, Jania, Maryuri, Xochitl, Natalie, Julie, Krista, Morgan, Adriana, Marteena, Nina, Adria, Beverly, Lexy, Athena, Briana, Christina, Linda, Gordy, Christine, Kelly, and Jessica.

My hat girls are Samantha, Suzie, Tanya, Maryuri, Evelin, Nina, Daniella, Catlin, Christine, Stacy, Jennifer, and Gordy.

There are others who also contribute in small and positive ways, so I just want to thank everybody for their support in helping me, as it’s absolutely my pleasure to serve you in boxing.

I get fan mail and I respect all opinions. Many actually help me with input that I use constructively to make this website better.

Next month I will offer my annual feature of personal choices regarding the top categories in boxing – THE BEST OF 2010. Also next month, after many fans have requested it, I will reach back into the archives to bring you a story that I featured earlier this year regarding the five best black heavyweights at the turn of the 20th century: “World Colored Heavyweight Championship.”

As the New Year 2011 arrives, I want to wish everybody a safe and healthy year, and please know that your continued support logging on to  dmboxing.com  is greatly appreciated!
