It was quick. Daniel Jacobs (31-1 / 28 by KO) defended his WBA middleweight title in just 85 seconds by knockout over Peter Quillin (32-1-1 / 23 by KO) on a nationally televised bout shown on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York.
From the opening bell both fighters exchanged hard blows with Jacobs coming out on top catching Quillin with two clean right hand punches sending him wobbling across the ring. Referee Harvey Dock took a good look at Quillin and seeing him not responding called the fight off with him visibly hurt still on his feet.
For the former WBO middleweight champion Quillin this was his first professional defeat, and for Jacobs this was a huge win with a possible future title unification match with either Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez.
