WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (37-0 / 30 by KO) moved up in weight to super lightweight and decisively beat Adrien Broner (33-3 / 24 by KO) in their super lightweight bout by a unanimous twelve round decision on Saturday night.
The fight was clearly controlled by Garcia from the start and he was text book throughout. It seemed that when Broner would try to pick up the rhythm with his jab, Garcia would come back with solid exchanges.
Rounds seven and eight were huge for Garcia. Broner won rounds nine and ten, making the bout appear closer than it was, but Garcia had built up enough of a lead that it erased that notion.
The official judges scorecards were 117-111, 116-112, 116-112 … my scorecard was 117-111, nine rounds to three for the winner Mikey Garcia.
I personally think that Mikey will stay at 140 pounds and later relinquish his 135 pound title belt. His prize match is with Terence Crawford.
The fight was shown on Showtime with the official ringside attendance of 10,084 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
When is Broner, going to realize he is nothing more than a 10, rd. Club Fighter?
