By David Martinez / Boxing Historian / dmboxing.com
This past July 15, 2024 ”www.dmboxing.com” officially celebrated a milestone, of 17 years of existence.
The website started back in 2007 and since then I have published over 2,000 articles and features world-wide for viewing.
It’s absolutely a delight to bring you boxing, as I have produced this site to be the best that I can provide.
Along the way, I have been blessed to become acquainted with a wonderful array of fans, and with some to becoming the closest of friends to me, and that I consider the greatest gift of their friendship.
I am also grateful to have a special core group of people that have enhanced the success of the website. First off is John Boitnott, who had the vision to believe in me and was the first webmaster. After serving a trial period learning the mechanics of a website, I am now a proud producer.
There are others who have certainly contributed to the continuing success, and I’ll start with a trio of individuals that are no longer with us (R.I.P.) – may their souls rest peacefully in heaven – Rusty Rubin, Harold Lederman, and Jim Amato. These three provided a wealth of boxing knowledge to the website.
Rusty was my first writer and featured his monthly column, “In Rusty’s Corner”, and also “Glove2Glove” which offered prayers for the sick, needy, and deceased.
Harold provided his own video shorts called “Hey Harold!” which previewed upcoming major fights to be shown on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Jim was nothing less than brilliant with featured stories on boxers of the past and present. His expertise as a true boxing historian was priceless.
A team of others that certainly have contributed to the highest degree are Bob Quackenbush (Proof Reader), Tom Donelson (Author, Member Boxing Writers Association of America), Kathy Kraft (Proof Reader), and Steve Corbo (Proof Reader / Boxing Writer).
The list is lengthy, but a special thank you to all the men, women, and boxers who have modeled my website attire and other products.
Last, but definitely not forgotten, is my loyal fan base who I would like to recognize and thank for their support and positive input. My involvement in boxing goes back sixty-three years to 1961, and my top priority is to provide honesty and credibility to dmboxing.com for all concerned.
In a survey of faithfully loyal fans, they picked the website categories they liked best which were, in order: the history of the great boxers of the past; Ring Trivia; my personal input of questions / answers feature; the current updated fight results by Tom Donelson; and the monthly Fight Calendar updates.
The histories of past boxers are such a joy to research and write about. The trivia questions have intrigued me since my youth, as I would pick the minds of the older generation and ask questions about their era to educate myself; and to my surprise, a few that I have spoken to had actually seen some of the greats as far back as the turn of the 20th century. The fight calendar is something that I have always featured as a courtesy to my readers since the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s when I was a boxing beat writer for my local newspaper, the Santa Barbara New Press, so fight fans could choose and plan in advance to view the upcoming fights of choice.
I know you have many choices in boxing, so thank you for making this website dmboxing.com one of them. It is truly an honor of opportunity to share my passion for the sport, as I consider myself first a historian, and secondly a boxing expert.
Thank you – to everyone – so much appreciated!
