This past weekend, on HBO’s Boxing After Dark, veteran Cuban champ Joel Casamayor, 36-3-1 (23) took the measure of Australian Michael Katsidis, 23-1 (20) via a 10th round TKO, at the Morongo Casino. Casamayor keeps the Ring Magazine lightweight title belt, in an exciting fight.

Katsidis gave a great account of himself and will be back.

This week is St. Louis, local favorite Cory Spinks takes on veteran banger Verno Phillips in a fight that figures to be very interesting, although it’s hard to figure out how it will be fought.

Phillips has one-punch kayo power and a solid chin. Spinks, a southpaw, is more of a hit and run type boxer, who has, at times shown he can mix it up with anyone. For that reason it’s a hard fight to predict.

We’ll call it for Spinks via a close decision as he’s the faster fighter and has the home court advantage.
