After a week off, we have four very exciting televised fights to choose from. On HBO, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, a solid double-header featuring four top welterweights. Miguel Cotto and Alfonso Gomez meet for the WBA crown. Although Gomez is a tough kid, he can’t punch with Cotto and will wind up losing in a gritty effort.

That fight will be followed on HBO by a more interesting one, with Antonio Margarito facing off against Kermit Cintron. Margarito beat Cintron once, and it’s hard to know what will go on inside Kermit’s head for this important match-up for the IBF crown.

Margarito is a big puncher, but he is very predictable. Take the dog in this one, Cintron by decision.

Over on Showtime, two light heavyweight fights, one featuring the “Road Warrior” Glencoffe Johnson taking on bad Chad Dawson for the IBO belt. Dawson, an up and comer is going to have to be at his best to beat the veteran Johnson, who is nearing the end of an excellent career. An upset can be in the making here, but we’ll take Dawson to win the fight, and come out with a lot of extra fight knowledge as well.

The other fight on Showtime features Antonio Tarver taking on Clinton Woods. My heart says Tarver, but the gut says Woods via a late stoppage. I always go with my gut, and it’s a big one.
