How surprised was I when Bernard Hopkins beat Kelly Pavlik last week? Not as much as most boxing prognosticators seemed to be. I didn’t think (or pick) BHop could win, but I did feel strongly that the fight would go the distance. Hopkins, more natural at light heavyweight, has a concrete chin. The thing I was most surprised with is the way he took the fight to Pavlik from the opening bell. In boxing, most of the time youth triumphs over experience. This fight was an exception. Congratulations to BHop for a well-earned victory.

Hard to say what Hopkins at age 43 will do next. It would be very hard for him to hang up the gloves after this bout. But I think we can safely say that Pavlik will be back, with a lot more ring smarts than he had prior to this bout.***

An exciting fight card from Manadaly Bay this weekend. Made up of a lot of young, exciting fighters from the lower weight classes. These are the guys who give fans their best bang for their buck.

Besides featuring the always exciting Jorge Arce on the card, the main event features Nonito Donaire of the Philippines in an IBF flyweight title match against Moruti Mythalane.

The semi-main features Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. taking on tough Matt Vanda.

All this and Jorge Arce too….Should be a lot of great non-stop action.
