Allow me to recommend two excellent books, “The Arc of Boxing” by Mike Silver and “My Life among the Icons” by my Los Angeles based friend, Johnny “The Flash” Ortiz. Both are great reads.
Upcoming, on May 15th, the “Battle of the Badges”
On the professional scene, while I have longed believed that the Nevada State Athletic Commission is the best around, I also believe that licensing the heavyweight fight in Vegas between Frans Botha and Evander Holyfield, was not in the best interest of the sport, but rather the best economic interest of Nevada.
Let’s be clear, I wouldn’t even accept payment to view this event, let alone pay for it.
If I wanted to watch dinosaurs, I could also rent “Jurassic Park”. It would be cheaper and far more exciting. I give this fight a rating of five fingers, all pointed south. I don’t believe it’s worth watching, even for free, which it’s not.
Want a pick. No chance here. I don’t even care.
Glove 2 Glove:
Say prayers for the souls of Oscar Terrell, brother of former heavyweight champ and good guy Ernie, who passed away after a long illness.
Add to the prayer list the sudden passing of a good friend, Julian Eget, who was not only a friend, but a fighter who would go the distance for whatever cause he championed. He had served as Vice President for the Los Angeles based World Boxing Hall of Fame.
Prayers are also requested for the soul of Lorraine Chargin, wife of promoter Don, who suffered through a long bout with cancer.
Also leaving us was Canadian boxing promoter Loren Cessina.
Undefeated So. Cal. boxer Danny Hernandez was shot in the head and is in the hospital. He needs your prayers for a full recovery.
Prayers for all their souls as well as for the comfort of their families are also requested.
Sad to report that Genaro Hernandez’ cancer has returned. We ask for your prayers to help “Chicanito” in his battle against this relentless foe.
Prayers for the return to health of Casey Guerrero, wife of popular boxer, Robert. “The Ghost’s” wife is having a recurring bout with leukemia.
On behalf of these great fighters who have given their all in our great sport, we thank you for your ongoing prayers.

Glove2Glove, which has been an integral part of the Ringsports.com magazine and website. It is a program I wish to continue a long after I have left the sport. I want to thank Dave and Deborah Wilcox, who have offered to take over the program and promised to continue it indefinitely. This generous offer means a lot to me.***
Thanks and God bless.***
