There have been wizards in boxing, one that immediately comes to mind is the great Benny Leonard. But today, Vasyl Lomachenko is just that – a wizard in boxing!
On Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Lomachenko (7-1 / 4 by KO) defended his WBO super featherweight title with a one-side seventh round stoppage over previously unbeaten Nicholas Walters (26-1-1 / 21 by KO).
Lomachenko, is a two two time Olympic gold medalist and a two division world champion as a professional. He completely dominated the fight before the end came after seven rounds, with Walters calling it quits.
Lomachenko showed tremendous movement and ring generalship in this bout, throwing punches from all angles in an easy win.
I would say the match Lomachenko wants now is a rematch with Orlando Salido, to avenge theonly loss in his professional career.
Personally, the only fighter that comes close to the ring brilliance of Lomachenko in the ring today, is unbeaten, two time Olympic gold medalist and current WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0 / 11 by KO). Unfortunately, they probably won’t meet anytime soon because Rigondeaux is in a lighter weight class and I see Lomachenko moving up in weight in 2017.
