Lomachenko Impressive – Stops Marriaga

On Saturday night at the Micro Theater at LA Live, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (9-1 / 7 by KO) successfully defended his title in a one-sided seventh round stoppage over Miguel Marriaga (25-3 / 21 by KO) in a match shown live on ESPN.

Lomachenko came out in a stalking mode in the opening rounds with good movement and a right jab from his southpaw stance.

In round three Lomachenko dropped Marriaga with a straight left for the first knockdown in the fight.

A clash of heads developed a cut above Lomachenko’s left eye in round four.

As round six came about, Lomachenko was in complete control and one could see this fight wasn’t going the distance, as Lomachenko literally chased Marriaga around the ring like a little puppy dog.

Lomachenko dropped Marriaga once again with a sweeping left, but the Colombian finished round seven.

Before round eight began, Marriaga’s corner stopped the bout, keeping their fighter from enduring further punishment.

My scorecard after seven rounds was 70-61 … every round for the winner and still champion – Vasyl Lomachenko.
