This edition of “Pages From The Scrapbook” features my pre-fight article on two heavyweight fights – dated November 1, 1981. As the original article is damaged and unreadable, this is the file copy piece prior to publication.
The heavyweight doubleheader featured Larry Holmes vs. Renaldo Snipes for the WBC heavyweight championship, and also the co-feature Michael Dokes vs. George Chaplin.
Many of my loyal readers today don’t know that back in the seventies, eighties, and nineties, I was a boxing beat writer for my local newspaper, the Santa Barbara News Press, doing fight predictions and other boxing news.
It was such a blessing at that time in my life, as I experienced first hand the journalism field which has helped me to be the best I can be in producing my website – dmboxing.com
Interesting tidbit on Chaplin ko’ing Bobick. Snipes gave Holmes a scare. Dokes had super fast hands. Take his drug problens away, he was a force.
