Pages From The Scrapbook #23

By David Martinez / Boxing Historian / dmboxing.com

This edition of “Pages From The Scrapbook” features an event that took place in May of 1974 in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California. These newspaper clippings are self explanatory when you follow them in order.

Many of my readers today don’t know that back in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, I was a boxing beat freelance writer for the Santa Barbara News Press, and these articles are what prompted the sports editor, Dave Kohl, to request my services and bring me in as their boxing man.

As it turned out, this was certainly a wonderful blessing during that time of my young life, as I experienced the whole concept of journalism. It was that experience which guided me to be the best I could be in the production of my www.dmboxing website today.
