Hello! I’m Bianca Collins, director of public programs at Zócalo Public Square—our mission for the last 20 years has been to connect people to ideas and each other, which we do by publishing a digital magazine and convening live events.
Our upcoming event co-presented with ASU Global Sport Institute and UCLA College, Division of Social Sciences: “What Does Boxing Owe Its Champions?” is Tuesday, May 23 at 7pm PDT in Downtown Los Angeles, and streaming live on YouTube.
A discussion moderated by sport and ethnic studies scholar Rudy Mondragón with California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster, former middleweight champ Sergio “the Latin Snake” Mora, and Kali “KO” Mequinonoag Reis, professional boxer and actress, will reflect on boxing’s future—as an athletic endeavor, as a business, and as a cultural force—in California and beyond. A reception with food and drink will follow the conversation.
Our programs are always free of charge and RSVPs are required.
I’ve attached assets for easy sharing on social channels (please tag us @thepublicsquare) and a flyer with a QR code, best shared via email and printed out.
If you are aligned with the program content, we’d be happy to set up a :15 get-to-know-you call!
